What is the CSI effect?

The CSI effect describes the real-life ramifications popular TV programs (such as CSI) are having on the criminal/judicial system. It allegedly alters public perceptions of forensic science, particularly in a courtroom setting where jurors may require unnecessary or even irrelevant tests based on what they see on TV.
